Breakfast

Hard-boiled Eggs, Granola Cluster and Grapes

A healthy combo. Great for breakfast.

Flour-less Chicken Strips (recipe from this link)

These chicken strips were so good! They were breaded with eggs, instead of flour, for extra flavor and protein. I then topped the strips with homemade teriyaki sauce, which added a flavorful sweetness. 

The entire meal was finger-licious! I enjoyed it. My family enjoyed it too.

Afternoon Snack

Dried Apricots and Blue Cheese (here's the recipe)

Blue cheese is an acquired taste--and I'm glad to have acquired a taste for it. It's sharp, potent and definitely satisfies the adult palate. Because of its relative bitterness, blue cheese tastes superb with something sweet, namely today's apricots. 

I chose Turkish apricots. Mine were from a local organic grocery store. They're also sold at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's.

Dinner

Tomato, Egg & Shrimp Stir Fry (get recipe here)

Tomato and egg stir fry is a traditional Chinese dish. Growing up, my family made it all the time. It has a sweet and tangy flavor, with a smokey Asian twist. It tastes great with rice.

Today's tomato and egg stir fry is a variation of my family's traditional recipe. I added bits of shrimp to add both flavor and bulk. Plus, shrimp is a great source of protein, as well as a clean eating favorite.

Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream – Is This Even Close?

What’s my favorite kind of recipe to post on Food Wishes? Any recipe that I’ve never tried before, and this green tea mochi ice cream is a perfect example. In the kitchen, there’s nothing quite like the thrill of having no idea what you’re doing.

I’ve had it many times in restaurants, and have always been fascinated by its unique combination of taste and texture, but I had absolutely no clue how it was done. I basically still don't, but regardless, this was my first attempt and I look forward to lots of criticism.

I probably should've done a little more research, but I glanced at a few recipes, and decided to just go for it. Remember, these early experiments can yield a lot of great experience, especially if it’s a totally failure. Happily, this wasn’t. All in all, I think it came out very well.

I went with green tea flavored mochi, and while I usually see it paired with green tea ice cream, I decided to go with plain vanilla, and really enjoyed how the subtle, aromatic bitterness of the tea plays off the sweetness of the ice cream.

By the way, if you don't use the glutinous rice flour this will not work. You can’t substitute regular rice flour, as it doesn't produce the same texture, or so I'm told. Anyway, let me know how I did, or more likely didn’t do; and I really hope you give it a try soon. Enjoy!

UPDATE: Apparently the reason they use corn and potato starch when shaping is that raw rice flour has more of a bitter flavor. Must have brushed off most of mine, since I didn't really notice an off flavor, but I will be using the other starches next time. Thanks for everyone's input!  


Ingredients for about 10 Green Tea Mochi Ice Cream Balls:
(I did 8, but there is enough to make a few more)
1/2 cup glutinous rice flour
pinch salt
1/2 cup cold water
2 tbsp sugar
1 tsp green tea powder (matcha)
10 small scoops ice cream of your choice (about 1 1/2 cups worth)

Breakfast

Maple Hill Creamery Yogurt

This brand of yogurt is made with milk from 100% grass-fed cows. The flavor takes getting used to, but after a while, it becomes creamy and sweet. I recommend the maple flavor.


Mid Morning Snack

Honey, Walnut and Grape Mix (recipe here)

Sweets in the mornings are totally acceptable! I like this snack because it's made from natural sugar, and contains walnuts' wholesome flavor. Sweet and crunchy--great combo!

 Lunch

 Quinoa Tabouli Salad

In addition to quinoa and tabouli, this salad contains tomatoes, onion, scallion, parsley and other herb-y ingredients--all in a sweet and lime-y flavor. It tasted delicious, and made a great clean eating lunch idea.

Cod with Lemon-Cucumber Salsa (recipe here)

This clean eating recipe may sound hard to do, but was actually easy to make. Took less than 30 minutes. Plus, the lemon-cucumber salsa was unique and refreshing. I think you'll really enjoy this awesome recipe.

Breakfast

Fage 0% Greek Yogurt with Honey and Raspberries

If you haven't tried Fage Greek yogurt, you should. It's thick in texture and rich with flavor. Of course, like all Greek yogurt, it tastes sour, so a little bit of honey helps. Also, I like adding fresh berries.

Excellent breakfast idea! Hope you enjoy it as much as I did.



Mid Morning Snack

Fresh Figs

Figs are so good!

They're especially good in the summer time. They're soft, juicy and fresh. Love them as quick clean eating snacks.





Lunch

Berry Salad with Organic Poppy Seed Dressing

Berries go with everything!

Because there were leftover raspberries from breakfast, I added them to the salad, along with blueberries and chicken. Then, add drizzles of organic poppy seed dressing, and a delicious lunch is served.



Afternoon Snack

Pistachios and Rainier Cherries



Dinner

Broccoli Cheese Quiche in Soy Flour Crust

Instead of regular flour, we tried soy flour. The consistency felt different, but still held the quiche together. Also, it tasted good too.

I definitely recommend using soy flour for quiche. Oh, and broccoli and cheese are fantastic too. I'd like to try whole wheat flour next time, but definitely recommend soy.
